General Visa Information

Persons desiring to enter the United States temporarily for medical treatment may travel using the Visitor Visa, a nonimmigrant visa, for up to six months.

Family

Each family member’s application is reviewed separately. Each family member is issued an individual visa based on the application that family member submitted.

Eligibility to Work/Study

An applicant traveling on a B1/B2 visa is generally not allowed to work or attend school.

Exception: An applicant enrolling in a school may be classified B-2 if the purpose of attendance is recreational or avocational. For example, a part-time language course may qualify for a B2, if the main purpose of the trip is for pleasure. DHS is responsible for classifying academic programs.

Duration of Stay

• A visa is not a guarantee of entry into the United States. An officer of the Customs and Border Protection Agency (CBP) at the Port of Entry determines whether or not a traveler may enter the United States and how long they are permitted to stay. The validity of the visa is not associated with the authorized duration of stay; while an applicant may have a visa valid for 10 years, the authorized duration of stay is generally no longer than 6 months. The visa’s validity is simply the period during which travelers may travel to and apply for entry into the United States.

如果申请人自雇，必须提交：

If an applicant is self-employed or owns a business, the applicant should bring:

1. 最新个人税单。The most recent tax returns
2. 最新公司税单/公司银行流水。Most recent tax returns for the business and/or business’ financial statement
3. 公司执照。Certificate of incorporation
4. 证明现在生意正常运行并有收入。Proof that the business is currently operating and generating income

申请人在加拿大学习

If an applicant is studying in Canada, the applicant should bring:

1. 在校证明（学校成绩单，注册函，学费支付收据，录取信）。School attendance records (school transcripts showing grades, registration letter, records of tuition payments, letters of acceptance)

有临时工作，雇主信/工资条

If working part-time, letter from employer and pay slips

1. 银行流水/投资账户 Financial documents such as recent bank statements or statements from investment accounts in Canada

如果申请人在世界的任何其他地方被刑事拘留/判刑，携带法庭文件。If the applicant has ever been arrested or convicted of a crime anywhere in the world, bring in associated court documents.
